SEDA Award winners




On Monday November 15th we attended the spectacular MSAC swimming pool for the 2010 SEDA Presentation night. With an audience of appromimately 1000 guests, the select group of students were awarded from each sports venue. Guest speakers included the Melbourne Victorys coach Ernie Merrick and Melbournes Brad Green.

Congratulations to Byron Finnigan, Jordan Giraud and Mitch Hodgetts of recieving the SEDA awards for the AFL Doncaster program.

All 3 students have worked extremely hard over the course of the year and have excelled in many areas of the program.

SEDA Beach Volleyball Competition

On Wednesday Novemeber 10th , all the AFL SEDA groups headed to Port Melbourne beach for a Beach Volleyball competition run by some of the Clayton Cert 4 students. We entered two teams and both were very competitive during the prliminary rounds. When it came to the Grand Fional it was the undefeated Staff team taking in the Doncaster crew. After a very tight game we came aways as PREMIERS yet again!! Well done on a great day!

SEDA Presentation Evening ALL STUDENTS TO ATTEND in full uniform

Pink Ribbon Breakfast 2010


This morning (Nov 4th) our Cert 4s led by Adam Cruickshank and his event group put on a fantastic Pink Ribbon Breakfast to raise funds for Breast Cancer Research. All Cert 4 students donated breakfast items and Adam and his crew negotiated with local traders and had fruit, bread, bagels and milk donated. This event worked hand in hand with their Nutrition task and proved to be a great success. The effort generated donations of $1006 which included online donations, cash doanations and merchandise sales such as wrist band and pins.

IMPORTANT END OF YEAR DATES

- The last week of classes begins, Monday 15th of November

- The SEDA Presentation Night will be Monday 15th of November at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC). More details will be made available closer to the time

- Students will be dismissed from classes on Monday 15th of November at 12 noon to allow them to prepare for the SEDA Presentation Night

- Given the Presentation Night, students will be expected to arrive at their venues for classes on Tuesday 16th of November at 11.00am. Class activities will resume at this time with students dismissed at 3.00pm

- Wednesday 17th to Friday 19th of November, classes will operate as normal at your child’s venue

- Last day of classes is Friday 19th of November with an early dismissal at 2.30pm.

Pink Ribbon Breakfast Thursday November 4th

This Thursday November 4th, four of our Certificate 4 students are holding their major event at Zerbes Reserve. They have chosen to host a PINK RIBBON Breakfast to raise fund for research into Breast Cancer. All our Certificate 4 students are required to contribute a healthy plate for the morning. We encourage all students to raise $30 each to we can reach our target of $750 !

International Students Day at Punt Road


On Friday October 22nd our students were invited to assist in the running of an International Students Day at Punt Road oval. With over 80 participants our students taught them the basics of our great game and put on a demonstration of Rec Footy . A wonderful day was had by all!

East Doncaster Dominate- SEDA Handball PREMIERS!!



On Thursday October 7th we travelled to the Box Hill City oval to take on the Montmorency AFL groups and the Box Hill Cricket group in a Handball tournament run by a group of Box Hill Cert 4 students.

After only 1 sessions practise the day before, we were actually pretty confident we could go well is we set our minds to it! After finishing 2nd after the pool games our 2 teams qualified for the Semi Finals. Team 1 vs Mont and Team 2 vs Box Hill. In two thrillers we won both games by GOLDEN goal to set up and all East Donny Grand Final. After a tight first half Team 1 led by the days MVP Shaun Sattler came away winners 9-5. Well done to EVERYONE for a senational day!

SEDA Athletics Carnival


On Wednesday September 8th the Diploma students ran a SEDA wide Athletics carnival at Melbourne University. Under sunny skies each Sport took part is a range of Track and field events a great day was had by all. Well done to Jordan at Matt who competed very well in the High Jump and 400m. Overall the AFL crew came out on top!!

SEDA Surf Trip to Torquay

Move over Kelly and Layne the AFL Doncaster crew have arrived!! On Thursday September 2nd we headed down to Torquay for our long awaited surf day hosted by the SEDA Surf Crew. We were very lucky and  got a good day after the very wet winter we just said good bye too! After our coach trip down we went to see the Surf museum and were shown a DVD on the History of the surfboard and we then had some time for lunch and a visit to the Surf shops.  Soon it was our turn to hit the surf under the supervision of the SEDA crew, and before we knew it we were in and amongst the action! Many thanks to Stu and his students for a fantastic day.

Nitro Gym- Fitness Screening

On August 26th we continued our sessions at Nitro gym and students were shown how to conduct fitness screenings , students have been completing there tasks and writing up there own fitness programs. Students also have taught others diffrent exercises for a variety of muscle groups.


Active All Abilities Presentation

On August 18th Brent Gutterson the Program Co-ordinator from AAA was our guest speaker and presented the programs and activities available to people with a disability within the City of Manningham. Our students also took part in games of seated Volleyball and Blind End ball which showed them how difficult it is to participate and also how skillful these athletes with disabilities are.

Doncaster Primary School Athletics Carnival


After an earlier washout , we had a wonderful day at the Doncaster Primary School Athletics Day at Box Hill Athletics track on Monday August 23rd. Our students acted as event marshalls and judges and did a great job. This was the culmination of a terms coaching and training with the students fom DPS.

Doncaster Primary School House Athletics

On Monday the DPS Hosue Athletic carnival was washed out it has be rescheduled to Monday August 23rd at the Box Hill Athletics Track. We will be travelling from the track to Bulleen Heights Special Need School to commence our program with these students over the next 4-5 weeks.

Nitro Gym

Every Thursday afternnon the students from AFL Doncaster head to Nitro Gym at Kilsyth for work on units involving Resistance training and the different components of Fitness training.

Students have worked on designing their own programs, teaching diffrent exercises and planning and running a fitness session for the class. These sessions will continue through the semester.

City Facility Tour

On Monday August 9th the crew from AFL Doncaster headed into the Melbourne Sports precinct to tour and view the premier sports facilities in the Country. The day began at the Westpac Centre with a tour of the Collingwood Football Clubs headquarters. Much to the delight of the group the Pies coach Mick Malthouse was the first person we met and he was happy to pose for a group photo. We then were taken through the gym, pool and meeting rooms.




The next stops included the new Aami Arena and Goshes paddock where the Melbourne Demons and Melbourne Victory were training.

The nest stop was a tour of the great MCG, as we arrived the entire senior list of the Richmond Football club were our welcoming party.



Students then made their way over to MSAC for a sports afternoon playiong table Tennnis and a very competitive game of Volleyball. A very enjoyable and educational day was had by all!

Glendal Primary School MEGA Footy day


On Friday July 23rd our students ran the Glendal Primary School Footy day. The day comprosed 3 x 90 minute sessions and saw every student from Prep to Grade 6 take part in 10 activities. The day was an outsatnding success, and the School is very keen to have us return for future sports days.
